Shell Oil ordered it's first load of Lonestar Prestress concrete poles to replace rotten wood poles at their Pasadena, TX. refinery. According to Shell, they will be replacing all wooden poles with concrete poles as needed and use concrete poles for all new construction.
ExxonMobil continues to purchase concrete poles for the Baytown and Beaumont, TX. refineries but the big news in 2009 was that the Baton Rouge, LA. facility ordered it's first load of concrete utility poles. Many refineries in the Gulf Coast region and beyond have been hardening their electrical infrastructure using concrete poles as a cost effective alternative to wood or going underground.
